Top 5 Logo Design Trends for 2020

What better way to kick off the new year than sharing our logo design trend predictions for 2020? It’s always exciting to take a look back at the course of design trends over previous years to get a gauge on where we are now. I don’t know if it’s because we are starting a new decade, but we are seeing a few general graphic design trends heading in a futuristic direction– as an example, we are seeing a lot of monochrome imagery using cyber punk colour schemes. Will futuristic design be a key factor in logos over the next few years?

  1. Animated Logos

This will be the most obvious new trend to viewers as it’s something we haven’t seen before. This will bring a fresh approach to businesses who wish to adopt this concept.

Our eyes are attracted towards things that move, so if the logo animation is quick and exciting, animated logos can help to break the ice between your business and the client.

  1. Adventurous Typography

We are expecting to see more unique and dynamic use of fonts in wordmark logos. This is because of the ever increasing need to highlight the character and personality of your brand.

There are endless ways to use typography to create a logo with tonnes of personality. You can add graphic textures, brush effects, arrange the type in the shape of an animal or object, or use negative space to create a hidden image. You just need to make sure it’s legible!

  1. Vintage Cartoon

This one definitely isn’t futuristic – more like a comforting nostalgic throwback. Vintage cartoon logos are a great choice when you require your brand to connect emotionally with your clients. Retro colour schemes, pastel tones and grainy textures are more modern than ever.

  1. 3D Gradient Logos

The gradient trend has been around for a few years now, but we expect this trend to team up with 3D shapes to provide a futuristic and energetic option. We also expect to see tapered/radial gradients alongside linear gradients to add more life to the 3D shapes.

  1. Hand Drawn Logos

Another trend that has been on the rise for a few years is the use of sketchy, asymmetric logos. A great way to get away from the perfect lines that computers produce and add personality to your brand by highlighting textures and grainy lines.

We believe this will be popular with designers, allowing them to return to the sketchbook and have their unique artistic flare on show in the final logo.
