Clous Storage on a Computer

Keep Your Head in the Cloud Drives: How to Transfer Large Files

Whether it’s a graphic design project or website build, we work with large files daily. Not only do we have to send files to our clients for review, we also rely on clients to send us their precious assets  – like logos, imagery or text files. We’ve all been in the position at some point of attaching a file, clicking send, and being told ‘sorry – file too large!’

Email accounts can only carry a certain amount of storage. Large files can quickly fill up your allocated personal storage space, even if they are only sitting in the sent box. Due to these restrictions, the majority of providers will block an email with a large attachment from being sent. For the emails that do make it past this filter, you might find they are unhelpfully diverted into the recipient’s spam folder…

Communication is key to the smooth running of any project. Luckily, there are several options available for sending large files across the web and ensure everyone has what they need. This week, we’ll take you through a few of our go-to’s for making sure projects run with ease.

Cloud Drives

Cloud storage, such as Google Docs, Dropbox, OneDrive, are several options available that allow users to create an online file-sharing space. At Yellow Cherry, we are especially fond of Dropbox.

We use Dropbox daily to create online folders that can be shared directly with our clients. From here, they can easily upload documents or imagery at the click of a button. We can access these instantly and receive a notification when they folder has been updated.. Seamless!

Dropbox folders can only be accessed if you own the account, or click through access link. You can also be added via a personal email address which allows for security and confidentiality too:

Once you are in your desired folder, navigate to the right hand bar and select > Upload Files

This will open up your file browser and allow you to select the relevant files needed

WeTransfer

We Transfer allows users to upload files and send them directly to the intended recipient via an email address. You don’t even need an account unless you are sending the file to more than 20 people at a time. There is a limit of 2GB, but compared to Google’s Gmail that can only send 25MB… that’s a large file size!

An added bonus of using WeTransfer is that you’ll be notified when a recipient downloads your file. This can grant you peace of mind knowing that your documents have been received.

Simply fill in the email address of your recipient, then your own with some context in the message section of what the file is

Then select the circular blue “+” button to open a file browser to choose your files. When ready to send these over, hit >> Transfer

YCD CONTENT DISCLAIMER

Wondering where the best place is to upload your new website or design project text? Look no further than our direct content disclaimer on the website. It’s simple, you can attach any Word or Notes files directly to the form with your details and we’ll receive a ping that content has been uploaded. After we store it away to our Dropbox, we’ll be sure to reach out to let you know.

Check the boxes and fill in your details before selecting > Choose file

Once you’re happy with your files, hit > Submit and we’ll receive your content directly
