Will mobile data push wifi out of the picture?

Mobile data speeds are beginning to trump WiFi internet speeds all over the world. In around 33 countries the mobile download speeds are faster than their internet counterparts.

These 33 countries are spread all across the world. They include countries like: Australia, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Greece, and the Czech Republic. Overall, there were plenty of countries where the speeds were very competitive between WiFi and mobile data. Smartphone manufacturers may need to rethink their tendency to prioritise WiFi, as mobile data seems to be on the path to eclipse WiFi in the future.

In countries where the broadband networks are relatively strong, such as: the united states, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea and Japan, mobile data is lagging behind by quite a large margin. In some countries where broadband and mobile are relatively , there was no issue with people worrying about their download speeds. With both Mobile and WiFi download speeds being adequate they don’t have anything to worry about.

Smartphones are designed to hop between open WiFi networks so that the users doesn’t notice. Smartphones automatically jump between networks no matter if the speeds are faster or slower, they will do it without the user even noticing to keep them connected.

This game of chase and catch up will always be going on. What will happen once 5G networks get released all over the world? Will we see results change? Yes, well if they follow through on what they have promised. Only time will tell if we will see mobile speeds eclipse WiFi speeds worldwide.
