What are the different types of Google Ads?

Google ads have been around since 2000, they have vastly changed over the last 19 years since they were first released. Google Ads now offers 4 main areas of advertising: search ads, Display ads, Video and Youtube Ads and Mobile App ads. Yellow Cherry Digital deal primarily with the that list. In this blog we are going to give you a brief breakdown of what goes into each type of ad.

Google Search Ads:

Search Ads are as the name suggests the ones that show up when a user is searching for a specific item. Within the search ads, you can have either broad match or phrase match. Broad match is when someone searches for something similar to the phrase you have put in. this includes, similar phrases, singular or plurals of the wording, misspellings and related searches. Broad match searches helps you reach the widest audience.

Phrase match, as you would expect is when someone searches a phrase that matches what the users has searched. Phrase matching search results give you a much more lean audience and one that matches what you are advertising, so we always suggest using a mix between both broad matches and phrase matching in the google ads search campaigns. An example of this would be if someone searched for a camera, they would type in “camera”, the results that would show up would be: “canon camera”, “nikon camera”, “sony camera”, “full frame camera”. For broad match the results would be: “where can I buy a camera”, “cameras for sale near me”, “second-hand cameras”.

Display Ads:

Google Display ads contain images and text They are called display ads because they appear and are eye catching items on the web pages relating to what you are advertising. The best ads of this type are ones that are eye catching images that are eye catch and showcase the item that you are advertising.

There are multiple sizes and shapes for the different display ads. Each different display ad fills up a different part of the on screen page. Each display ad will have different amounts of success, it all depends on what you are advertising and to who and where the ads are appearing.

Video and YouTube Ads:

Adverts that you see before Youtube videos (skippable and non-skippable), are google video ads. These video are called in-stream video ads.

We all know the popularity of videos. In-stream advertising is that you are able to skip the video after 5 seconds, so the video has to be eye catching enough to keep people watching for the whole advert. There are non-skippable in-stream ads, but they cost a large amount more than the skippable ones. The non-skippable ads mean that the audience member gets to see the full ad, and there for you get the whole adverts message. Overall the main differences between the two adverts mentioned above are how much the users is forced to watch (5 seconds or the whole ad), and the other main difference is cost or the adverts.

The question is when do I use Google ads? The main use of the Google ads is to raise brand awareness, raise brand reach and to promote the product and brand consideration.

Overall the different types of google ads all have their benefits. Each of them have their own roles to play in the larger google ads game. Each of their specific roles are part of a multi stream google ads campaign.
