The top 5 image editing trends to watch in 2019
We have noticed over the years how quickly photo trends come in and out of fashion across all social media platforms. The filters that Instagram provide have been out of fashion for quite a while now. In 2018 we saw the rise of people using Lightroom presets for their posts.
The following trends and what we think we’ll see through out 2019 on social media:
1. Collages
The number 1 trend we forecast will be big in 2019 will be photo collages in stories and posts. Collages are nothing new to Instagram but we have noticed creators recently stepping up their creative game. Specifically using instagram multi image posts, allowing them to create a collage that you can scroll through.
We think due to multiple apps providing a fantastic place for them to do so. For example the app “unfold”. I use the this app too, the ease of use in this app is fantastic, and they are introducing new items and templates often to keep their users happy with fresh new designs.

2. The return of Black and White images
It’s not that they ever went anywhere, we just think brands and individuals are going to get back on board with using black and white photos once again. We think that people will mix them all into together with the full coloured images too, but we also think that we may see some brands and individuals fully change their timelines and feeds into black and white images.

3. The Glitch effect on videos and images
We only saw the tip of the iceberg at the end of 2018 and the beginning of 2019, but it’s starting to gain traction again. We are seeing some of the highly popular brands and people (influencers) using the effects on their posts and stories. For example, the instagram page for the Prequel app, there Instagram page is a fantastic showcase of the “Glitch effect”.
It has become such a popular effect and feature across all social media that Instagram have introduced the filter for everyone to use called “Chromatic Pulse”. We think it’s popularity will continue to rise until the effect reaches peak popularity.

4. The Brighter the better
Visually attractive and aesthetic posts always do well. We think 2019 is going to be the year of colours, and colourful social posts across the board. Along with the colours we think it’s going to be about consistent colours, that match across you Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram. We think this trend is going to be at its most popular and noticeable around spring and summer when the sunshine is in full swing.

5. Retro filters and Grainy videos
We saw it beginning towards the end of 2018 you may have seen where we have all see the posts of retro looking videos and images. We’ve a; see the posts in 2018 with the “Huji’, “Kamon-classic” and “VHS Cam” app. They have been left behind in 2018. We think this trend might make it quite far into 2019, with more and more apps coming out with the filters being very easily applied, this trend could go quite far.

As no one can actually predict the future we are just taking what we feel is an educated guess as to what we may see through out 2019, but only time will tell and we may see some new trends come out of the woodwork and go viral.
