10 Reasons why video marketing is absolutely crucial
If you believe that video is the future of marketing, then the future is here! With 2019 soon to be drawing to a close we are starting to look back at some statistics, specifically in the video department. And boy oh boy do we have some interesting numbers to show you.
But before we do that, let’s just have a quick recap on the history of video:
“Video technology was first developed for mechanical television systems, which were quickly replaced by cathode ray tube (CRT) television systems, but several new technologies for video display devices have since been invented. Video was originally exclusively a live technology. Charles Ginsburg led an Ampex research team developing one of the first practical video tape recorders (VTR). In 1951 the first video tape recorder captured live images from television cameras by converting the camera’s electrical impulses and saving the information onto magnetic video tape.
Video recorders were sold for US$50,000 in 1956, and videotapes cost US$300 per one-hour reel,[2] however, prices gradually dropped over the years. In 1971, Sony began selling videocassette recorder (VCR) decks and tapes into the consumer market.[3]
The use of digital techniques in video created digital video, which allows higher quality and eventually a much lower cost than earlier analog technology. After the invention of the DVD in 1997 and Blu-ray Disc in 2006, sales of videotape and recording equipment plummeted. Advances in computer technology allows even inexpensive personal computers and smartphones to capture, store, edit and transmit digital video, further reducing the cost of video production, allowing program-makers and broadcasters to move to tapeless production. The advent of digital broadcasting and the subsequent digital television transition is in the process of relegating analog video to the status of a legacy technology in most parts of the world. As of 2015, with the increasing use of high-resolution video cameras with improved dynamic range and colour gamuts, and high-dynamic-range digital intermediate data formats with improved colour depth, modern digital video technology is converging with digital film technology.”

We have come a long way since the age of analog. These days you can record super high definition video on your phone, upload to your preferred site, and just like that, it’s available to watch. Now, let’s look at the different styles of video marketers are using to promote brands and businesses today.
First and foremost is probably the story video, a short descriptive video or animation that explains the business, brand or service. Other popular types of video content include vlogs (video blogs), video interviews, video presentations, tutorials, product reviews, product demos, recordings of live streams, video testimonials, and video ads.
We live in a world where time is money, so getting the message across to your potential clients in a fast and entertaining way, is the best kind of way. Let’s face it, we would all much rather watch a short 2 minute video to get informed, than having to read the “about” section on a website. Nobody has got time for that 😉
According to HubSpot, video dominates. And not just on YouTube. In fact, four of the top six channels which global consumers use to watch video are social channels.

YouTube has been absolutely cardinal in pushing the distribution of video forward in the digital age. And even though they are probably still the most viewed platform in the world, many others are slowly but surely creeping closer. Facebook’s EMEA Vice President Nicola Mendelsohn predicts that their content will probably be “all video” by 2021.
Plus, technology conglomerate Cisco reports that 82% of all consumer internet traffic will be video by 2021.
So let’s look at those statistics: (taken from OBERLO)
- 85% of all internet users in the United States watched online video content monthly on any of their devices.
- 54% of consumers want to see more video content from a brand or business they support.
- 87% of marketing professionals use video as a marketing tool.
- Videos are a consumers’ favourite type of content to see from a brand on social media.
- 88% of video marketers are satisfied with the ROI of their video marketing efforts on social media.

- The average user spends 88% more time on a website with video.
- 72% of people would rather use video to learn about a product or service.
- YouTube is the second largest search engine. It receives more than 1.5 billion users per month and plays over 1 billion hours of video each day to users.
- Viewers are 95% more likely to remember a call to action after watching a video.
