How Yellow Cherry Digital plans its social media posts

Before we post anything on social media, we go through our 5 step process. We have tried many different ways to go about setting up our schedule, testing different items, and seeing which images do best. So we have correlated this little list to make your life a bit easier.

Social Plan in place 1-2 weeks in advance (special events included)
We write, proofread and make changes to our captions
We stick to our planned schedule and supplement the posts with stories for consistency
We work to keep up with the latest trends
We understand our audience

The reason we stick to this list of 5, is because its tried and tested and we know it works. The list helps us to takes every part of what we do into consideration. The images, graphics and videos that we publish all fit our brand. We consider each part of the post. We put a lot of time and effort into the captions we write making sure that they are engaging. We choose to put out high quality content that we think our audience will be attracted to and that they will engage with instead of scrolling on by.

We believe it’s important to stay ahead of the game, that’s why we like to have our content planned 1-2 weeks ahead of time. Why that amount of time in advance? So we don’t have to worry about it in the time leading up to it, just incase something pops up, and so we can focus on other projects that are ongoing. We often have the whole month scheduled with captions and hashtags in place.

Proofreading is a very important part of our process, although we will admit the occasional typo slips through. Having a second and third set of eyes look it over has proven to be beneficial. Those who are proof reading it, put themselves in the position of our audience and try to think and write more like our chosen brand voice and identity.

One item on the list that we have preached time and time again is consistency with your posting schedule. Once you have found your optimal timing for your audience, stick to it. Why does publishing your content when they are most active make a difference? It means that your audience is more likely to like, comment and share the content. The more eyes that are there to read the content and take it in, the better. You want people to read the content and take in the images that you have put your time and effort into.

Latching onto a trend can do wonders for your engagement and reach. If you decide to keep up to date with the latest trends you could stand the chance to increase your audience through those who are following said trend. Once the new audience members who are following that trend stumble across your post or posts, they could look into your quality content, and start following you too. They could be following the trending hashtag, trending video or trending type of image. Once they are following the trend, they could come across you content. A further benefit is that your current audience will see you staying up to date with the latest trends and take a look (because let’s face it, we’re all nosey).

Understanding your own audience is one of the most important parts. If you are posting content and not getting very much engagement, then it’s a sign you need to change things up. Changing the type of content that you post can be a very good exercise. Two thing that we have learned throughout our time on social media is, people like to see people in posts. Engagement always rises when there are people in your posts. If you have one style or type of post that always does well, do more of it. All you have to think about is to do more of the things your audience likes, and less of what they don’t react or respond to. You’ll see your engagement improve.

Over time we have worked out our quick little list of 5 things that work specifically for us. We think it’s a good starting point for people to give these a go. We suggest giving these 5 a go and then whittling down the ones that you don’t need so that it fits your or your brands needs.
