Merry Christmas

Cherry Pick: Our Favourite Christmas Adverts

With Christmas almost upon us, it’s that time of the year again where the big names in retail compete to make the best Christmas advert.

It’s the most important time of the year for shops as they want to maximise their sales during this busy time and so, adverts are a great way to promote their brand, raise awareness and bring some festive cheer to households across the world.

Fun Fact: According to Anthony Gregg Partnership, John Lewis was the first company that kickstarted the whole Christmas advert phenomenon back in 2011 with their’s titled “The Long Wait”.

This got the team at Yellow Cherry thinking about our all time top 5 Christmas adverts – and what makes them so memorable!

Top 5 Christmas Adverts

Sainsbury’s – Mog:

Made by the team who were experiencing a high after the success of the Paddington Bear film this advert had all the charm, and humour wrapped into one. It provided nostalgia for adults whilst also appealing to children.

Air New Zealand – A Very Merry Mistake:

Providing endless laughs and influencing your next holiday destination this advert created great momentum adding to the hilarity of the situation.

Heathrow – Bears:

This cute and heartwarming advert does a fantastic job at highlighting Heathrow’s job in being able to bring families together at Christmas (not to mention that from a marketing standpoint these two little protectionists make for ideal merchandise!).

John Lewis – The Bear & The Hare:

A very emotional advert telling a lovely story of the bear that had never experienced Christmas due to hibernation. It sums up perfectly that no-one should be left out at Christmas.

Coca-Cola – Bottle:

It’s never Christmas without a Coca-Cola advert! One of the best was the one where the lady is gifted a bottle of Coca-Cola every year by Santa and then many years later she sees him near a shop window and hands him a bottle of Coke and is greeted by her granddaughter. The advert perfectly captures the essence of family and love at Christmas in this heartwarming and slightly emotional story.

We hope you enjoyed some festive fun!

If this has inspired you to think about your own advertising, why not jot them down and bring them to us in the New Year. The team will be enjoying a break from the 22nd December until January 6th, but then it’s wagon’s roll for more brilliant campaigns and marketing solutions in 2022.

Until then, from all of us at Yellow Cherry, have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year when it comes!
